Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and Section 504 Plans
Navigating the IEP or 504 plan process can be overwhelming—but you don’t have to do it alone. Our educational consulting services are designed to support families every step of the way, helping you confidently advocate for your child’s educational rights and needs.

What is an IEP?
An Individualized Education Plan, or IEP, is a legal document developed for students in public schools who have been identified with a disability that affects their ability to learn in a traditional classroom setting. It outlines a customized learning plan designed to meet the student’s unique educational needs.

The IEP includes:
-
Your child’s current level of academic and functional performance
-
Specific, measurable goals for the school year
-
Services and supports the school will provide (like special education, speech therapy, or counseling)
-
Accommodations and modifications to help your child access the curriculum (like extra time on tests or reading support)
-
How and when progress will be measured
IEPs are developed by a team that includes the parent or guardian, teachers, specialists, and school staff—and most importantly, they’re centered around your child.

Aspireon Academic Support offers services that guide parents through the process of developing an IEP from its creation to its implementation and everything in between. Our consultants advocate for what your child needs, attending all necessary meetings and being your voice throughout the whole process.

What is a 504 Plan?
A 504 Plan is a formal plan developed by schools to give students with special physical or learning needs the support they need to succeed in a general education classroom. It’s designed for students who don’t need specialized instruction, like in an IEP, but do need accommodations to access learning on an equal level with their peers.

504 Plans fall under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, a federal civil rights law that protects individuals with disabilities from discrimination in schools and other public programs.

A 504 Plan can include:
-
Classroom accommodations, such as extended time on tests, preferential seating, or breaks during class
-
Behavioral supports, like a designated place to regulate, assistance in writing down assignments
-
Access to assistive technology or medical accommodations
-
Modified homework or testing formats
-
Health-related supports like managing asthma, diabetes, or ADHD in the school setting
Unlike an IEP, a 504 Plan does not typically involve specialized instruction or regular progress goals. However, it’s still a powerful tool for helping students with disabilities fully participate in school.

The plan is developed by a team—usually including parents, teachers, school counselors, and administrators—and can be reviewed and updated as your child’s needs change.
